In Uganda, trans and gender-diverse people face multiple forms of structural violence — through state repression, social stigmatization, and the growing influence of global right-wing movements. Yet, communities continue to organize, creating spaces of visibility, solidarity, and resistance — building structures that enable self-determination and dignity.
In this event, Monalisa Akintole – a feminist trans woman, human rights practitioner, and coordinator of the Uganda National Trans Forum (UNTF) –bwill share insights from the struggles, strategies, and resilient practices of trans communities in Uganda.
The UNTF is a trans-led network that amplifies voices, strengthens movements, and advocates for inclusion, rights, and social justice — even under conditions of severe restriction.
At the center of the discussion are questions that resonate far beyond the Ugandan context:
- How can spaces for resilience and solidarity be built under hostile conditions?
- What strategies are communities developing to defend and expand their rights?
- How can we connect transnationally to name and challenge right-wing ideologies and strengthen solidarity across borders?
